It was Alice who had stumbled on the site while she was digging for cheap cute clothes online. Like I’ve said, she’d donated the clothes she’d outgrown to the neighborhood homeless shelter, so her mom told her to scout around for new clothes. That’s how she had found the site.
Alice says the site has everything, and she says, simply everything for everyone. There are cute clothes for juniors like her. She was positively screaming on the phone while she was telling me this. I could imagine her drooling while she went on about the great-looking hoodies and tees and blouses she had seen.
I stopped her mid-sentence and told her if there were really cute clothes on that site, they were probably made only for her. Then she stopped me mid-sentence and said, “Sandra, are you in this conversation or not? Didn’t you just hear me say there’s something for everyone on that site?” I mumbled my apologies, told her I’d been through so many disappointments with cute clothes for women too many times, I didn’t really believe that the site she’d been describing so glowingly was any different from those I’d seen for myself.
In fairness to Alice, she wasn’t easily offended, bless her. I guess it comes from her sister and me being true best friends. So she says, “Okay, so you won’t believe me. Would you believe if I put Lindsay on the phone so she can tell you herself?” I told her it wasn’t necessary. I made light of the matter by asking her how much she was getting for plugging the site to me. She just laughed her hearty teenager laugh. “C’mon, Sandra, you know me better than that. But I’d appreciate an ice cream once you try out their site and find out for yourself that cute clothes for cheap do exist.” That was convincing enough for me to sit up and listen further. I knew Alice has been on a diet, so the ice cream request was definitely meant to convince me she was telling the truth and nothing but.
Alice says this site really does have everything for every season. What she was really all excited about were the cute summer clothes for teens, and quickly backtracked by reassuring me there were lots for men, women and kids as well. She was genuinely gushing about the great offerings they had on the site. Cute!
Now, you might say she’d been laying it on rather thick during our conversation, but I believed her then, and I believe her now. Alice isn’t the type of girl who’d just go on and on about cute clothing, or any other thing for that matter without incontrovertible proof. Alice wants to be a biochemist someday. She’s not the nerdy, thick-eyeglasses-type. She is, to my untrained eye, more fashionable than most kids on our block. She just digs science. If she says the site’s good, then far be it for me to doubt her.
